In the 1800’s it was all about courtship. Courtship is defined as a romantic relationship with the end goal being marriage. So in the 1800’s men would wear their “courting suits” and they would get to meet up with their lovely lady (usually someone arranged by the parents, you were never able to actually pick a mate out yourself) and they would get to stroll down a park. Of course a parent would be observing the whole ordeal, so any funny business and the relationship was off. During the 1920’s this seemed to change a bit, the world got a bit more “dirty” and flappers and “petting parties” came around. Now granted you were definitely looked down upon if you were engaging in these activities, but people new how to keep things secret. Back to our generation, PDA is quite different than it was then. You can walk down a street and see couples holding hands, giving each other hugs, or even a kiss on the lips. Some people do take it too far though and I have seen way too many make out sessions and that just crosses a line for me. So yes while PDA has become a normal thing, it doesn’t mean a lot of people like it, some people are quite annoyed by it. Change can sometimes be uncomfortable, but it can also be a good thing. The societal norms I talked about today are indeed a change in society compared to what life was back then, but whether they are good or bad changes I have yet to find
