What is this doing to the children in our society? What implications does this have? It may seem like a little thing, but I think the implications behind this are quite large. When we tell a little girl to stay inside and play with her Barbies, or tell a little boy that it’s not okay to play with dolls, we’re telling them that it’s not okay to explore other options, that it’s not okay to express themselves in the way that they’re wanting to. We’re telling them that society has expectations of them, that we have expectations of them, even at their very young and impressionable age.
