This research adds a great deal of knowledge to social work practice. The homeless population is one difficult to study, due to their unstable environment. The study shows that the homeless are attempting to reintegrate within the community, by volunteering and being involved. By volunteering, there are potential benefits such as job-related skills, building self-esteem, and giving back in service which will improve their overall well-being and situation. On behalf of the homeless, social workers should advocate for more service agencies that will allow homeless individuals opportunities, such as volunteering.
