Social Workers Refusal

As nurses, we all see many incidences where many patients refused certain aspect of care, Personally in this situation I would have explored his refusal in seeing the social worker. The refusal may be communicating more than just no. Could it be that he has some preconceived notion about social worker or may be it means an intrusion in his personal life at home? In my clinical experience, I found that social support as the key factor in facing their diagnosis and fight depression. A patient waiting for a lung transplant told me that his that support from his family give him the strength to keep going.
