Social workers face ethical and moral dilemmas throughout their careers. An ethical dilemma is when a social worker must choose between two options where there is a conflict of ethical principles. It is important that social workers make decisions that are supported by research, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics, agency policies, and state and federal laws when faced with an ethical dilemma. More specifically, they need to rely on state statutes, agency policies, and the NASW Code of Ethics to solve these ethical dilemmas. In this case, the case manager is faced with the ethical dilemma of reporting suspected child neglect.
