Unless a social worker is licensed to prescribe medication or diagnose biological illnesses, it should be left to the doctor to determine the best solution for a course of treatment. That stated, social workers generally spend exponentially more time with clients than doctors. A social worker may have the chance to hear a great deal more of the client's life circumstances, problems, and systemic issues.
