The juvenilization of poverty is the term used to describe the rate of child poverty, and the long term effects poverty has on children. The average child poverty rate has been higher than the average poverty rate of all persons, since the 1960s. It is important to be aware of these social trends. By knowing that the trends exist, social workers can be proactive in addressing the problems. Also by knowing the statistics/odds before developing a plan of action, the social worker has a better chance of developing a suitable plan for their client.
