Introduction As a young child everyone asks you what you want to be when you grow up, I have always said that I want to help people but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be. As I grew older, I have decided that I want to become a social worker. Although I still undecided on what type of social work. I am between a foster care worker or an adoption counselor. I have a love for kids, and I believe that each and every child in the world deserves a loving family and place that they can call home. Although I would like to be one of these two types of social workers, there are many different other types of social workers. Social workers are resources for help. Becoming a social worker would make me feel like I am making a difference in people’s lives. …show more content…
You also need to go to college and get a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or sociology. It is import to go to graduate school so that you can learn more skills and knowledge. Also getting a master’s degree almost guarantees social workers more money a year. Applying for graduate school can be a long drawn out process. It is important that you make a good first impression on your graduate school application. There are several tips that I can take into consideration when I start applying for graduate school. The first tip to making a representable application is don’t just download applications(Wingo, n.d.). Always do research about the program you want to be in and make sure they are the right fit for you. The second tip for a representable application is read the application carefully, and follow the directions. Ignoring what the application asks can make someone not want to accept you into their social work program. It is always important to read carefully and provide examples especially in your essay. The third tip to making a representable application is attend a pre-admissions meeting or ask to meet with a faculty member to talk about the program and the fit for yourself. Always be prepared and ask any questions you have. The fourth tip to making your application more presentable is to give yourself plenty time to think, write, revise, edit, get feedback from an impartial reviewer, revise, edit and submit! It is east to make mistakes so be careful! It is always good to have other people read your work so that you know that your ideas can come out clearer if they needed to. (Wingo, n.d.) The fifth tip to making your application more presentable is if you aren’t confident about your writing skills , during the application process, you might consider taking a writing class or working with an editor to improve your writing skills.
