Many say that being a social worker is a very depressing job because you are working with people's problems on a daily basis. After comparing South Texas College (STC), University of Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), and Baylor University based on my criteria of tuition cost, cost of living, and distance from home, University of Rio Grande Valley would be the best choice in helping me pursue a career in social work. Thus, the University of Rio Grande Valley offers the expertise required to become a social worker.
The social work field is abundantly diverse. There are different types of social workers: child and family social worker, military social worker, clinical social worker, healthcare social worker, and school social worker (Social Work Guide).

South Texas College is a public community college with an enrollment of “...more than 34,000…” and “...over 119 degree and certificate program options” (STC). Although, it does have a variety of programs, with a low tuition of approximately $2,494 (STC), and about 10 miles away from home, the strength of the programs is not ideal. They offer an associates degree in social work (STC), but the level of education does not qualify to become a licensed social worker. Without the right program, it is eliminated immediately. Baylor University had the strongest program qualified for the Texas licensing examination but was too far away from home, about 10 hours to get there by car, and expensive living with a tuition of over $56,628 (Baylor). The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley compared to the others had the best distance from home: about 35 minutes, so I can live at home and save some money from renting, cost of living considering that we are still in the valley it is the same, tuition cost of $14,868, and the strength of program accredited by Texas board (UTRGV). As a result, University of Rio Grande Valley was the best choice in every area of
