Social Worker Interview Essay

Improved Essays
The difficult task about this assignment was to find a social worker that would allow me an opportunity to walk in their shoes. Conducting this interview in my opinion was a two head sword, for me it gave insight into a career path defines dignity and respect of the elderly and for the social worker it gave an opportunity for her to share in her shoes. I was relaxed in this interview because I wanted to learn without interrupting with my own experience of shadowing other social workers. I know that working in this environment is not an easy task, especially the ones who are trying to adapt in to this kind of lifestyle. I am so grateful for this opportunity to explore a day with a social worker that had so much compassion to work with this population.

By working with a distressed person to become better, not only will I be able to enhance their life, but also the community will transform into a more positive place. I view transformation as a ripple effect, where changing the situation for one person eventually causes a change in the majority. This is especially true when it comes to mental illness and the stigma that surrounds it. I have been highly involved in mental health work on my college campus since my sophomore year.…
