Well, I really did not know what career path I was going to choose after being so distraught when I withdrew from the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program (OTA), but I did know I wanted to enter into a field that would be rewarding and helpful to others. Considering my situation, I decided to talk to someone one in Success Coach and she advised me to meet with Pat Weaver to do an assessment and a strong interest profile to help guide me in my decision on what career path that would be best suited for me. Social worker/Mental health was on the top of my strong interest profile. Therefore, I decide to choose this as my career path, so the school has played a big role in helping me choose my career. Not to mention I enjoyed working with people…
What did you learn in this course that will help you to be more effective in your counseling work? I enjoyed working toward a definite goal, working on one day having the promise of having a good job. I looked at different professions and applied at a lot of schools, before finally choosing counseling, during this time I was on vacation and spending a lot of time considering all the options, and how they would impact my life. The work that we did was fun and interesting, I believe I have been frightened of a program being too over whelming, or not engaging me enough to for me to be productive I believed this course helped me balance, my ambitions, and helped me feel productive.…

Description: For this paper I interviewed my sister who is a Social Worker; however, her job is very similar to what I will be encountering as a Marriage and Family therapist. I interviewed her for 2 hours and the paper took 3 hours to write, revise, and edit. Social Work Interview I chose to interview my sister, Brittany, who graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho in 2006 with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Although my major is Marriage and Family, I chose to interview my sister because her job and my future career have many similarities.…
Final Reflection Paper Sixteen months ago, I began a college career after a major life altering experience that would lead me down, an unknown path in this expeditive Career and Work Counsellor program. Taking an assemblage of courses that furnished me with a multitude of experiences. From year one the, Work and Life: A Career Counselling Perspective I was mentally prepared on relearning how to function as a mature student on this path of higher learning. I have been fixed the earnestness to study intensely; this was exemplified by attaining a place on the Deans Honour’s List.…
I quite agree with you that in the past, there was a high demand for social worker, but that not withstanding I believe even now you will still find people in a profession they are not passionate about and they will only be in it for the money. The difference will always be in the devotion and the passion with which such services are being…
Here, I learned how to be more culturally competent, work to empower oppressed individuals, allow client self-determination, as well as social work basics. Now, I am confident the graduate program here at Iowa will help me expand my knowledge even further. I am motivated to continue my education so I can get out into the working world and become a counselor. I hope to apply my knowledge and experiences in the working field, and represent the University of Iowa School of Social Work with professionalism and great competency. A long-term goal of mine is to one day own my own practice because it will not only challenge me professionally, but hopefully provide positive services to my community.…
My acceptance into the human services program at Lindsey Wilson College marked the beginning of a whole new journey in my life. In the fall semester of 2013, I began my first human service classes. I brought with me a desire to help others, and a curiosity about this field, but very little knowledge. My past work experiences had put me into positions of service, but had not taught me the intercut parts of this profession or how one might master such.…
I understand and value all human life, regardless of their background or beliefs. As a future social worker, I should treat each person, client, in a caring and respectful fashion, while being mindful of individual differences, and cultural and ethnic diversity. Unfortunately, this value is also a struggle for me, in the sense that I do not consider myself cultural competent and would like to work on and improve in the future. In becoming cultural competent, I will need to work with various different populations, and as of now, I have limited…
The road to become a social worker has not been easy. I did not expect this degree to fall out of the sky, but I did know about the added work during the internship. I learned early in the program that it takes patience and perseverance to stay in this program. I will reflect on the courses that has opened my eyes to the diversity in this society. The Intro to Social Work course was wonderful at displaying how the social work foundation got started and the people who stumbled upon social work through the act of kindness by looking beyond themselves to help others.…
I have volunteer experiences which have left me exhausted, but that does not change my desire to pursue a Master of Social Work at the University of Utah. This is what attracts me, this is what fuels my desire. I know that I am one who can mentally, physically, and spiritually overcome the hard times in a social worker’s career. I know that I may not be able to change lives, but I can hold the knowledge and skill set that can empower people to change their own lives, their circumstances, choices, and their families. And attending the MSW program at the University of Utah is the first step in providing me with the resources to be the link which people…

It is my aim to be accepted into the Department of Health Management and Information’s Master of Science in Health Sciences with a track in Health Services Administration, in the fall of 2017. If accepted, I would wish to learn more about health care systems around the world. Moreover, I would like to know what different health organizations have accomplished, so hospitals and other health organizations in the US can implement new strategies and policies to improve themselves. It would also be beneficial to help improve not only the quality of the services provided, but the access to these services so more people will be able to get the help they need. This is how I envision my career goals as I head into the health services administration…
I have wanted to be a social worker and work with children since I have been twelve years old. My dad grew up in the foster care system and is my inspiration for wanting to be a social worker and work with children who have experienced trauma. My freshman field experience opened my eyes to the many different opportunities and varied fields within the social work profession. Every other Monday throughout the spring semester, my freshman field class visited a different agency. In my field experiences during my junior and senior years, I have had the opportunity to experience social work in a school setting.…
