Social Work Values Analysis

Social work values have always been engrained in my thoughts and behaviors, even before I knew what was considered social work values. Since I was younger, I treated every being with the same amount of dignity and respect. I was able to see individuals who were different from me, and also how these differences do not equate to deserving a lesser quality of life. This was what I believed, and this inspired volunteer experiences throughout my life in order to advocate for these individuals, including: soup kitchen visits, assisting and spending time with older adults, as well as reading to underprivileged children. These ideals pushed me to take internship opportunities available to me in the human services field, which further gave me the ability …show more content…
My strengths include my organizational skills, my devotion, and my determination. I have used these traits in my schooling and related experiences when working with both individuals and groups. It has helped me in my education thus far, through my capability to stay focused and be able to complete several tasks at once. My commitment will help me stay committed to clients, as well as gave me the willpower to continue on when things are difficult. These are the same skills that will continue to assist me as I pursue my MSW at UCONN. On the other hand, I have also have faced limitations, such as my desire for things to be perfect. This guideline for all social workers, and the ethical aspects it presents, correspond with my own personal values that I have expressed since the beginning. Although individuals may be different in age, where they come from, economic status, religion, etc., that they still deserve fair and equal treatment, as persons with dignity. Any conflicts or biases that may arise through my practice between my own personal values and the requirements of the social work profession will be resolved through self-reflection and competence. This reflection will allow me to view the differences, and competency will allow me to overcome
