Social Work is needed in Society The hero without the cape, the man or women helping you have a future and be in a healthy environment. The person who checks on you weekly at any time you need them to talk. This person’s job is to help you become what you want to be. A citizen may ask, who is this person? This job, this person, that does all of this is a social worker. All things have a beginning, and most things have begun because there was a problem that needed to be solved. Social work began by solving the problems of the children whose families aren’t always there to support them. Social workers exist because, “Social workers help people solve and cope with problems in their everyday lives” (bls.gov). Depending on the type of Social work you are doing, “ Most social workers need a bachelor’s degree in social work”(National Association of Social Workers). Social work has developed and grown from just family work to including, “…mental health clinics, schools, child welfare and human service agencies, hospitals, and private practices” (National Association of Social Workers). According to the NASW, social workers get paid a decent amount “The median annual wage for social workers was $44,200 in May 2012” (National Association of Social Workers). To solve some of the negative aspects, when choosing the people to have this job, they need to be interviewed like a teacher would be. Also, we need to educate people on this work field so that more people do it. “They can’t do it alone, and this is why we need more clinical social workers in the schools, not just when there is a crisis, but for every-day behavioral health upkeep”(Gomez).
