The purpose of theory in social work practice is to reinforce competence within the profession, and ensure it is more widely accepted as a profession, which in terms, provides direction for how we practice. Theories are vital because they provide the tools of knowledge, understanding, and evaluation. Theory puts emphasis on the role of social work in modern day society (what you’re doing and why?), how to go about practicing social work, and recognize the internal and external factors in which our clients have no control
