I was hired on with the Army Reserve Center and began helping families of deployed soldiers. This was an easy and rewarding position as I could relate to the struggles that these families were facing. My husband was currently serving his second tour in Afghanistan. At that time my husband began his Active Duty career and I became a stay at home mother to my four small children. It has been a great privilege to stay at home and raise my children over the last six years. However, I have made it into a new phase of life where my children are in school and it is time for me to re-focus on my career.
When I declared my major in Social Work I didn’t really question why I wanted to do it or where I wanted to be in five or ten years. Having had professional experience and much life experience I can better state my intentions and purpose. I am actively pursuing acceptance into the Masters Social Work program to further my education and to re-establish myself in the Social Work career field.
I am interested in behavioral and sociological health in a military clinical setting. I have seen the ugly effects of long deployments and too short stateside cycles. Families and soldiers are both directly affected by this line of work. My primary concern and focus is on the reintegration of families after deployment. This is a critical time that can either make or break a family structure. Deployments require family dynamics to drastically change and many families need guided assistance to successfully find a new “normal” that will work for each
