I have learned that I can never assume things about a person or situation. I also learned that I should do research on my clients background and try to gain understanding about what goes on in their lives and why they react the way they do. One major mistake the social worker made was over stepping her professional boundaries. This in particular showed me that I have to be always mindful of agency policy, and not get too attached to a client. Faith Harper’s story gave great insight into social work practice, and I will attempt to go above and beyond to help all women in Faith’s…

During this week’s assignment I found the interview of Dr. Allen Frances was very interesting. Being in the Human Services program here at SCC and wanting to become a social worker I have been told that I need to be familiar with the DSM-5. I definitely agree with him that normality is difficult to define and it has become a cultural concept rather than a medical concept. Dr. Allen Frances states that our society is already immersed in pill popping which I didn’t find surprising at all. My opinion and viewpoint towards this is I feel like sometimes people get diagnosed incorrectly but any easy solution to make someone feel better is by taking medications and switching them up if some aren’t working.…

Life-History Interview Social workers use a collection of tools to assist in conducting a meaningful social assessment of elders by providing guided interviews with older adults. When planning for an interview a social worker would understand the time spent together, the reflection of their lives from a sociohistorical context, and social justice experiences by the elder over their lifetime. One of the positive aspects of reviewing and elder’s life come from weaving together the individual’s life. Social workers help them understand their lives in a more positive manner together, solve struggles, and make older adulthood more meaningful (Garthwait, 2007, p. 19).…

For this assignment, I chose to shadow a health care employee. The organization I visited was Kaiser Permanente. Dr. Sidney Garfield provided care for injured and sick workers and while the employees were being taken care of, Dr. Garfield was losing money.…
