What Does Social Work Mean To Me Essay

Social work for me is defined as a careless act of helping others, who are truly in need. Social work is what I live for. I was living my dream of becoming a social worker before I even knew this was the field I was going to choose in college. Helping others has always been a way for me to get through whatever was going on in my personal life. To see that I have helped a person in some way, gave me that extra push to know that whatever was going on in my life, was nothing compared to what other people may have to go through. Social work was never my first idea of a career choice. Growing up, my family always wanted what every normal family wanted, a lawyer or doctor. I did not chose the field of social work until the end of my junior year in high school. At that time, for the second time in my life, my heart was shattered. My grandmother died. I was taking care of her since the beginning of my sophomore year. And during the process of helping take care of her, I learned about the resources that was available. I love hearing people’s problems and helping them to find the best route to solve their problem. There is nothing like someone opening up to you because they trust you. They feel as though they can trust you with their vulnerable information. In my life, I already am an open ear for my friends and family and I actually enjoying it. An emotional limitation for me would be working adults who sexual or physically abuse kids or their partner. I know it would be something I am going to face with in my career, but I am not there yet to work with them yet. There will not be a choice if the agency I choose to work for, has sexual predators as clients. I will have to suck up my personal feelings to help the client get through their
