Social Work Ethics Essay

This course reflects the important of the NASW Code of Ethics. Social workers goal is to help people who are in need by addressing their problems. Sometimes in order to address client’s problems in might require legal aspects. An example would be if a social worker had to testify for a case on clients that she used to have. It’s the social works duty to testify and do the right thing even if the social worker isn’t getting paid or testifying isn’t part of their job description. The National Association of Social Workers calls it a pro bono service when social workers volunteer sometime of their professional skills with no expectation of financial return.

Clients need to know if a case is taken to court the social worker duty is to be honest to the judge and has the responsibility to be honest to the court. Social workers have the duty to continue to enhance their professional skill. The court can be intimidating and social works may feel like this, but to grow as a professional social worker shouldn’t shy away from intimidation things such as the court because it could enhance social workers skills professionally. As social works, we have an ethical duty to have a commitment to our clients. Social workers’ primary duty is to help the well-being of clients. Social workers’ responsibility to the larger society or specific legal obligations may on limited occasions replace the loyalty owed clients, and clients should be advised (National Association of Social Workers, n.d). Examples of this would include when a social worker is required by law to report that a client has abused a child or has threatened to harm self or
