Social Work Case Study: Carson Jones

Great Essays
Case Study Carson Jones is a student that I have been observing and working with this semester. He is a great kid, but has learning and social disabilities, with his main disability being his stuttering problem. My observations have included IEP meetings, parent meetings, and casual talks. I have even employed Carson and included him on several jobs where he was taught to interact with customers and write invoices. I introduced him to several trade schools and apprenticeship programs, and we even visited some of them. His interests include construction trades like welding or plumbing and his goal after graduation is to pursue a career in one of these fields. I have witnessed an increased level of personal confidence since I have worked …show more content…
Carson is a seventeen-year-old Caucasian high school junior of average height and slightly overweight. He is very friendly and involved in his church and lives with his supportive parents and two older sisters. He is below grade level in reading and written expression skills and has a very distinct stuttering problem. He tends to be a loner and has few friends. He has support services at school and sees a speech therapist weekly. He is studying on-level curriculum at his public high school and subjects he enjoys are construction technology and math. According to his mother, Carson was always a little different from other children and preferred to be alone, unlike his outgoing sisters. They expect high academic standards of all their children and have been disappointed in Carson’s school performance. They have tried to get him involved in extracurricular activities, but other than his church group he has been uninterested. His neighborhood abounds with unhealthy examples of school drop-outs, drugs, and other crimes and it is difficult for him to see his …show more content…
This was a question I asked Carson, and his answer included his parents, sisters, and teachers. At home, he is very close to his sisters, and he is sad that one of them is getting married and moving out. He is also very supportive of all his teachers and enjoys the assistance he gets from them. His special education counselor, Ms. Tenoshok is his favorite as he enjoys the extra attention and praise he receives from her. Both Carson and his parents noted that he has no significant peer friendships and that he rarely leaves the house. He also expressed no desire to get a driving license and said if he needed to go anywhere, he would

In regards to placement or map out of IEP for Bentley Barr. Per the evaluations that were conducted by Childwatch/Capital School District, Bentley’s family has been discussing the best options and we’re not sure we agree and would like to re-evaluate Bentley’s placement choice for the Wesley School for reasons to be further noted. I request Prior Written Notice to explain why Bentley was offered a two day program even though the IEP team thought that he needed to be awarded one more day, but there simply is no more room in this classroom for him. The team felt that this was the best option for him and that he would be able to learn more due to a smaller classroom size with this choice.…

    1. I think that it would be appropriate to integrate a child such as Fred Tate with other children of his age group in some social activities (such as playing baseball, soccer, children’s games, etc.) especially for the purpose of learning to be able to relate to his peers. However, I feel that it is essential for parents to locate other families of highly gifted children so they can share their experiences and develop a sense of community. The community support can help with finding appropriate resources and assist with understanding the unique needs of their exceptional child as well as provide support for the necessary changes in their own lives that may accompany dealing with this child’s intellect.…

I would like to extend my sincerest thanks for taking your time to consider my candidacy for the Educational Psychology/School Psychology program at the University of Wisconsin. I have always been drawn to behavioral psychology, the phenomenon of learning, and educational processes. After discovering that I had a special talent for working with children and at-risk youth, I eagerly began my academic pursuit in elementary education. With ever-increasing learning demands, and limited time and resources, I quickly learned that inevitably some children fail to perform adequately among their peers. This reality came quite clear to me through my experience working and substitute teaching in a public elementary school.…

Exemplified Love Life is a series of extraordinary and terrible chances of fate. One may never suffer a disease, illness or disability while others may face heart-wrenching issues which test their character and determination. All parents have an expectation of a perfect child, without complications, without illness, yet there are countless children born sick and disabled. While life doesn’t always turn out the way it’s expected, it’s the manner in which individuals choose to face the unfortunate challenges which defines who he or she is. This is best exemplified in the fictional story of Christopher Boone and the genuine story of Julianna Snow.…
