Upon initial intake, and the initial gathering of information, a bio-psycho-social assessment is administered along with other screening tools in order to produce the most accurate description for diagnosis and presenting problems. Some of the most salient standards at the clinic, is their evaluating practices and service planning. Working with a client’s level of optimism, treatment goals are grounded and establish only when they are within reach and achievable with the resources at hand, “Achievable, observable, behaviorally defined goals are stressed to increase client optimism and facilitate the recognition of success” (Cameron, 2006). Close monitoring for progress is a key aspect with any form of care provided through the Cohen clinic. Lastly, their advocacy and leadership is paramount to the clinic’s mission in meeting needs. Both the director for community programs and for administration are combat veterans who have invested their time to advocate and work for veterans throughout L.A.
