Social Work Case Analysis Paper

First Reaction Towards this Case My first reaction towards this case was feelings of concern for both the client and her previous employer. The client was clearly angry and agitated and the worker was focusing on locating a job. As a normal human everyone would be angry to be fired from a position that they held for nearly 20 years, however, many would not threaten to kill somebody and speak of the means they have to carry out that plan. As a solutions-focused session, the therapist appeared to take control of the session whereas this therapeutic strategy requires the client to be the expert. At times she would stare off into space and have a flat affect, she laughed at inappropriate times which could have been a coping mechanism but it was telling of her mental state. The client was sitting rigidly on the couch and had her hands on her thighs, she demonstrated choking with her hands several times while speaking about her previous boss. In addition, she also rolled her eyes several times during the session.
The Workers Strengths The worker displayed many strengths throughout the session such as maintain eye contact with the client the entire time. He was present by responding to whatever she was saying by verbally saying “mm” or “uh huh” which this particular client definitely needed as she felt dispensable and probably needed somebody to listen to her. He normalized the client’s feelings throughout the session which many people appreciate during difficult times. Moreover, he maintained a calm demeanor even when the client appeared to be very upset, which was illustrated when the client got up and tried to leave the session and he kept talking to her in a lower tone to calm her
