My career assessment score is ENFJ. Which says that social work is a good career choice for me. When I was younger, I always wanted to be a social worker. Since then, life has taken me down many different paths. I think now is the time for me to circle back to what I originally wanted to do in life. Of course the person I would interview would be a social worker. I interviewed Carmen Nicole Antoine, who is an Infectious Disease Social Worker at Emory University Hospital.

Social workers cannot control how their clients behave, so they much give them the tools and resources they need and continue on with the job. They must also learn to leave their work at their office at the end of the day. This allows you to return to the job day after day without getting burned out. As mentioned in Careers in Psychology a primary limitation of social work is the stress and feeling of helplessness from not being able to identify or supply the resources your clients need. (Traumatology, Feb. 2016). Nicole has many responsibilities in the office as well as in the community. Once a month, Nicole hosts a women’s wellness group. This is where women with HIV talk about …show more content…
And must maintain case history records and prepare reports. (Flanning, Julie) Nicole is also a grant writer. She applies, renews, and maintains the Ryan White Grant for the Infectious Disease department of Emory University Hospital Midtown. This grant was set up in honor of Ryan White who was a hemophiliac and became a poster child for HIV/AIDS in the US. In response to the HIV epidemic Congress enacted the Ryan White Comprehensive Aids Resources Emergency Act in 1990. This was to improve the quality and availability of care for low income, uninsured, and under insured individuals and families affected by HIV. In 1990 four months after Ryan White died Congress enacted the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Care Act in his honor. Under this act is the Ryan White Grant. This grant allows Nicole and the other social workers on her team to use the millions of dollars awardable to help HIV/AIDS patients pay for food, doctor visits, glasses, dentists, utilities, copays, Marta cards, and many other needs. Every three years Nicole is responsible for recertification of this program for Emory University Hospitals Infectious disease clinic. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, median pay for social workers in 2014 was $45,000 per year, or $21.88 per hour. The job outlook from 2014-2024 is 12%, which the handbook says is faster growth than average. According to
