According to Siegel (2016, p 212) In the 1960’s there was the “War on Poverty” in which the object was to improve the community structure of crime ridden inner city neighborhoods. There were various programs set up to provide solid communities and reduce crime. Several programs were introduced to give the poor, options for a better life. Two of the programs, to assist with the problems in the inner cities was Head Start and Job Corps. Siegel (2016, p. 212)

This program is also beneficial to lower income families that would have a hard time affording day-care. This program seemed to give my son that extra help to get him ready for Kindergarten. The first five years of a child’s life can be the most important and without these services, many children would not have a good start on their education. Many of these kid’s would be delayed in gaining skills they need to acquire in the most fragile years of their life. Head Start is a great program to get those necessary skills and give children that jump start. According to Missouri Head Start, (2016), Families have to meet poverty income guidelines, for example here in Missouri a family of three cannot make more than $20,090.00 in order to qualify for Head Starts services. Without these two programs there would be a lot of missed opportunities for our younger generation. These two programs can offer a brighter and more promising future of our youth. We would probably see higher crime rates and less educated young people without these two programs. The ultimate goal of these two programs is to give younger people the tools to be successful. Head Start gives them the developmental skills that are so very important to the beginning stages. Job Corps helps young people to be successful in obtaining a trade and getting their GED. Too many underprivileged children would be left behind without Job Corps and Head Start. This could explain why both of these programs have been around for all these
