There are strict boundaries within the caste system such as an individual must marry into the same caste and cannot be social with other castes. Urbanization and technological modernization in the caste system has loosened more today. “Anonymity in the city allows members of other castes to interact with one another and the technology sector has given opportunities for skilled workers to acquire higher-level goods, services, and life options no matter what their origin of their caste is” (Larkin, 2015). The caste system and slavery are similar in not having as much or any social mobility. As mentioned, the caste system is sorted based off of an individual’s hereditary position, that is assigned to at birth. In India there are four caste systems such as, warriors, merchants, artisans/farmers, and the untouchables that don’t have a place in the stratification system (Larkin, 2015).
Conclusion
The main systems in the stratification system class, slave, and caste have a major influence on society today. Without any systems there would be no social hierarchy. With social mobility this gives individuals the chance to move up in the class and essentially is a tool for motivation to want to be come successful whether its education or job. Now people should be aware of the systems that are taking place all over the world and are apart of each individuals daily
