Social Stratification In The Film Caste System

Macionis (2017) describes social stratification as “a system by which a society ranks categories of people in a hierarchy”. Relating to the film very well because there is a hierarchy at this time with the whites being higher up in social class than the blacks. One term that I can compare to the movie is Caste System. Macionis (2017) says that “it is the stratification based on ascription, or what you were born into” (pg. 208). In the film I can compare this to the character Minny because she wasn’t born into money and was poor. Being poor didn’t stop her though because she still had a fairly good work ethic to get a job after she was fired by Hilly for using her restroom. Next is Class System which according to Macionis (2017) is “social stratification
