One way that it affects people is that if men or women start to seek change or question society’s expectations, they risk the scrutiny of being called “gay” or “lesbian” even when they are not either of those things (709). This is society’s way of controlling the masses to keep what they feel is normal (7). Another way that social stratification affects society is how people internalize their labels. An example of this is how people in different social classes are treated differently so they then act how they think they should act, or the follow the stereo type they think they fit. This could be a hindrance on society if a person thinks they should be acting how lower class people are supposed to act, and then they are seen as lower class, but if someone from a lower social class acted how they think a higher social class might act, they might be seen as a more respectable person …show more content…
This could mean using externalization by treating people the same no matter their race, gender or socio economic status. This could lead into people using objectivation , because society will see people acting in such a way that they feel they should agree with, such as for issues in institutional settings, changing rules and regulations to help the oppressed, and that could make strides in changing things in more than one place (707). This could lead into internalization, because when people express wanting change and wanting equality they will start to see it around them, and they will then feel it themselves and expect it from others.
