In the movie “A Knight’s Tale”, William Thatcher was a peasant. He was not of noble birth but still jousted as knight anyways. Since he was not of noble birth, he was technically not eligible to joust. Only knights and people of noble birth were allowed to compete in jousting competitions. That is the reason why William had to pretend to be a knight in order to joust. When the truth came out about William’s origins, he was arrested because he had pretended to be a knight when in actuality he was a peasant. All of the other male blacksmiths thought that her work would not be good because she was a woman. Women did not normally have those kind of jobs during Medieval times. They were typically the ones who took care of the home and the children. Men also thought lesser of women and the things they did. The character in the movie was angered when the men said that her work would not be good. She was then determined to do her best to prove them wrong. Women’s treatment during that time period is another example of how social status affected people during that time
