Other causes of social issues includes employment. An employed person has a great amount of stress put on them to achieve their job responsibilities and to also possess the characteristics of a good employee. Some members of society withdraw from an occupation to help another. According to Counselling Directory’s article, poverty, mental illness, and exclusion from society can be the cause of leaving a paid job to care for someone. “Not having a job and caring full time also means that there is little time and opportunity to socialize, and the nature of caring and all of the combined factors can lead to an onset of mental illness,” (“Social Influences and Mental Health”). The only person a carer would mainly socialize with includes the one for whom they care for; therefore, that individual would be fairly excluded from the normal and average amount of socialization. The financial factor of beginning a job as a carer also affects the mental health. Lifestyle factors such as a poor diet, lack of exercise, insufficient sleep, and the abuse of drugs or alcohol will affect a person’s mental health. The food we eat impacts the development and prevention of mental illnesses, like depression and alzheimer 's. People with physical health problems have a higher risk of poor mental health. Physical activity maintains a healthy body and mind. “Research shows that doing exercise influences the release of uptake and feel-good chemicals (endorphins) in the brain,” (“Physical Health and Mental Health”). Different levels of physical exercise affect the well-being of the mentality as in mood, stress, self-esteem, anxiety, dementia, and depression. Just a short walk of ten minutes will increase mental alertness. Mental health issues can expand the burden of illnesses in patients with long-term medical conditions. Healthcare professionals have been asked to consider psychological well-being when treating a patient’s physical symptoms. People who participate in unhealthy lifestyle practices also have a hard time overcoming depression; therefore, their unhealthy lifestyle practices tend to work against some treatment effects.
