Social Risks In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Improved Essays
It can be argued that in William Shakespeare's tragedy, Romeo and juliet that love compels individuals towards irrationality due to the inability to fight it as it is an overpowering emotion. This can be shown through the main characters Romeo and juliet's actions as they take unnecessary physical, emotional and social risks throughout the story.
Through the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and juliet both take unnecessary physical risks. First shown through Romeo's actions when he broke into the grounds of the capulets risking his physical existence just for emotional well being. He is risking his physical existence when he is yelling to juliet who is standing in her balcony and romeo yells “And but thou love me, let them find me her:/My

This is shown firstly when Juliet decides (against her family’s will to not marry paris this is shown when she says “Not proud you have, but thankful that you have. Proud can I never be of what I hate, But thankful even for hate that is meant love.”(iii.v.147-149). This shows that juliet is making an emotional risk as her family is very upset with her choice making them lash out and yell at her causing her emotional harm and at risk for more. This is secondly shown through Romeo wanting to marry a girl (juliet) who he just met. You see he wants to marry her when he says “Then plainly know my heart's dear love is set/On the fair daughter of rich Capulet./As mine on hers, so hers is set on mine,...We met, we wooed and made exchange of vow,/I'll tell thee as we pass; but this I pray,/That thou consent to marry us today.” (II. iii. 51-58). this puts him at emotional risk as he doesn't know this girl and she can break his heart as he does not know this girl and what she has done what she wants to do or really anything about her. In conclusion Romeo and juliet both have set themselves up for emotional risk or damage that is completely unnecessary and all because of the irrational love between

There are risks that some people wouldn’t be able to take if that meant losing their family. For myself, I would agree with that, but It would ultimately depend on the person and their mindset. In the play, it seemed, Romeo and Juliet would stop at nothing to be with each other even if that meant disappointing their family. During the balcony scene they didn’t really think of the repercussions of their actions, at least Romeo didn’t. Juliet, in the beginning, was a bit hesitant but eventually gave in, then they went straight into talking about marriage without even considering how this would affect those around them.…

By not considering the outcome of having a relationship with Juliet, the two lovers build a deep bond; as a result, Romeo’s love becomes too strong and clouds his judgment which leads to his and Juliet’s untimely death. Romeo and Juliet immediately sense attraction towards each other when meeting at the Capulet’s party. At the party, Romeo told Juliet “For saints have hands that pilgrims’ hands do touch, and palm to palm is holy palmers kiss,” (Rom. 1.5. 101-102). When Romeo discovers that his newfound love interest is the daughter of his father’s enemy, he does not think of the consequences of pursuing the relationship.…

Shakespeare develops the idea that love leads to rash decisions through the behavior of the characters Juliet and Romeo. Juliet’s deep love for Romeo is the primary reason for her to make rash decisions in the play. First, after meeting Romeo at the Capulet feast, Juliet is beguiled by him. However, she is very distressed to discover he is a Montague, and the son of her family’s rival. Alone and upset, she says in her soliloquy, “Deny thy father and refuse thy name, /…

The tragic love story written by William Shakespeare, known as Romeo and Juliet, (which is the tale of two emotional teenagers that are bound by their families’ ancient grudge), they’re influenced by their families which cause them to make horrible decisions which inevitably lead to their deaths. Both Romeo and Juliet were under influence by their family, and friends, just like we are today. However, the Capulets’ negative impact is what caused Juliet 's upbringing, and overall self destruction or demise. Compared to the impact Romeo’s family had on him, Juliet was neglected of parental love and support, and was essentially blackmailed by her father. On the other hand, she was still trying to find a solution to her Romeo problems without any…

Romeo acts irrationally and kills Tybalt, and as a result he is banished from Verona. This harms his relationship with Juliet more than it could ever benefit it, this is seen when Juliet says, “Romeo is banished/ There is no end, no limit, measure, bound /…
