The definition of a social class is a division of a society based on social and economic status. In Ancient Egypt they go by a Social Pyramid (which is shown at the top). This Social Pyramid includes groups such as the Pharaoh, Artisans, Merchants, Government Officials, Soldiers, Scribes, Farmers, and Slaves. The rating simply goes Pharaoh, Government Officials, Soldiers, Scribes Merchants, Artisans, Farmers, and Slaves. You may be wondering, why is it in this specific order? Well here's why. The Government Officials were usually part of the royal family. If not, the royal family or Pharaoh would have to assign government positions. Overtime these positions were given to Nobles. Nobles profited from donations to the gods. All Egyptians (including Pharaoh's) gave donations to the gods. Then that leaves Priests. Their importance in the pyramid was to please the gods. Though they aren’t like priest today. Whereas today a god may be worshipped who is believed to bestow his grace upon his followers, the Egyptian priest offered and performed material and ritually magic services to the god of his temple, to ensure that god's presence would continue on earth, and thus maintain the harmony and order of the world as it had been created.” The third level of the pyramid would be soldiers. Like most soldiers these soldiers fought in armies and protected their land.
