Sociologists analyze social problems at many different levels. They also use a set of primary theoretical perspectives. Unfortunately, racism hasn’t stopped and primarily targets African Americans. To continue hearing about it today justifies it is still alive in our country. Race is a very important study in the field of sociology. It is studied at great depths just as any other social problem. Social inequality plays a large role in everyday interactions. Why do prejudice, discrimination, and racism exist? Those are the types of questions sociologists are trying to answer. There is a massive segregation with individual discrimination and institutional discrimination. The recent tragedy of shooting an unarmed black man by a white police officer in Ferguson Missouri did not help matters any. Everyone has their opinions on the corrupt law enforcement and the racial bias of what happen. The Lott Jr. (2015) website claims as a response to the police shooting of Michael Brown, President Obama proposes $263 million for police training and body cameras. Based on polarizing events during the first month of 2015, it would appear that racism around the world may be increasing (Hagopian, 2015). For example, many times white people are chosen to lead some type of action group and the people of color are only invited to participate. Now, this is not in every situation, but many.
