This letter is being written to you, to let you know my thoughts about how much this class has enabled me to grow as a writer and student. As a writer I have many new acquired strengths. One of these newly acquired strengths is that I have the ability to write an essay that assess other author’s pieces of work. Before this class, I wrote very generic five paragraph essays that let the reader know, that the author of a certain piece of work was a good writer and captivated the audience. Now I am able to state the authors’ purpose and the rhetoric terms that he or she uses to get their purpose across to their audiences.…

Dear Ed, I think it would be helpful if we could have a witness testify about Amye’s job in a way that fairly represents the job instead of insinuating that every drop call constitutes misconduct as Luke did. I would like to interview someone who has performed that job for a long time and can talk about system breakdowns, reasons to stay on the call, etc. in way that every action isn’t assumed to be misconduct.…

I would like to thank you in advance for taking the time to review my letter of appeal. The sole purpose of this letter is to highlight the reasons behind my poor average this past academic year and the steps I am taking to make sure my average will be well above 60. Towards the end of October my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and became seriously ill as her body could not handle the chemotherapy. Over the next few months it worsened and she eventually passed away in February. Not being able to be there for my family during this unfortunate time period and imagining what both my parents, who work full time were going through made me even more stressed and depressed.…

Both “Letter To His Father And Mother” and “Letter to Michael Willingsworth” illuminates important social economic and cultural differences in Puritan and Massachusetts society. “Letter to His Father And Mother” highlights the separation that one feels from the rest of society due to the plantations being far apart and the consequences of such actions, with not as much emphasis placed on societal benefits or rules. Instead, a heavier emphasis is placed on personal profits, with the poor and powerless being given the bare minimum in order to survive. In contrast, Puritans developed a communal rather than individualistic nature, with social standing in Puritan society being based off of religious beliefs. Citizens in puritan society are expected…

In “Letter from Birmingham Jail” Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. mainly utilizes ethos to further the significance of his credibility whilst displaying constant repetition to emphasize his message of injustice to blacks. King exploits all of his assets to their fullest in order to completely leave no stone unturned. He states “I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference” (King, Pg. 6). This is a prime example of ethos because king establishes his authority and knowledge of the subject, as being the president of any company, club, organization, est., instantly establishes your credibility in that field of discussion. King knows this extremely well as this helps his other points and arguments not only…
