By observing a class at Fontbonne University, there was a variety of observable information that was gathered during the observation. I observed an introduction to statistics course and it was seventy-five-minute meeting and observation occurred on Monday, September 12. I went into the class a few minutes before the class started and picked a seat in the back of the classroom. The classroom was set up with a podium for the teacher at the front of the classroom with a projector. The professor handed out note pages to the students in the front to pass back to all of the students. The class had mostly Caucasian females in the late teens or early 20’s with eleven people falling into this category. The next largest group was Caucasian males in the same age range which made up the next group with seven students. The next group fascinated me as an observer. There were six middle aged, African American women in my class between the ages of 30 and 55. The next group was one Middle Eastern male approximately 20-25 years old. This shows that Fontbonne does have some diversity, but not amazingly diverse. The people in the class were under the age of 25 for the most part, but there were some outliers in an older age group that follows with the idea that older students are returning to school to finish their …show more content…
As I mentioned earlier, the professor would work on the first two problems then the students would work out the remaining problems on their own. The students seemed to work actively and pay attention when the professor was working on the first problem, but then the students seemed to get distracted or work on other work until the professor started to walk around and see how the students are doing on their problems. Some of the students kept paying attention and actively asked questions throughout the class period, while others dosed off or worked on other assignments. The general information I can gather from the patterns I observed from the students is that these students do not take the class incredibly seriously in that they did not devote their entire focus into the
