My job is to help prevent them from committing new crimes. A probation officer must meet with the probationer, family and friends to gather background information to help better identify the right course of rehabilitation by providing rules of conduct, and setting goals. Probation officers should be able to discuss what factors might have led the probationer toward criminal behavior and provide adequate resources the probationer might need to better themselves, such as social service agencies, assistance organizations and other useful programs. The job consist of regular meetings with the probationer to evaluate their progress toward rehabilitation goals, this may include regular drug testing if needed. The officer may also complete a write up of the probationer’s progress and file them accordingly. Officers must be able to arrange post release services (employment, housing, counseling, education, etc.). In case the probationer is not following the terms of probation the probation officer must be able to take remedial action or court action. They also must be able to testify in court regarding the probationers progress and recommend sentencing.
When we talk about probation officers we have to talk about social norms and deviancy. Social norms are the behaviors and actions that the majority of society has agreed to be acceptable.

I could believe they are just a naturally bad person and just don’t like to follow rules. Yet, as a probation officer you have more than one client at a time and each may have their delinquency related to something different. Since, delinquency happens consistently with many other juveniles we cannot say it is only an individual problem. Through the perspective of sociological imagination we realize delinquency is a social problem. I understand that there are some factors in society that leads these juveniles to be delinquent. For example I could look into social

I have felt so confused and overwhelmed not knowing what I am going to do with the rest of my life. If someone has not already thought of this, they most likely will because the majority of people have to have serious questions based upon what they want to make a career out of. However, some people have always known what they feel passionate about and can make a career out of. Ever since I was young, I have always loved houses from interior to exterior and even structurally with floor plans. In third grade, I decided I wanted to be an interior designer and it was not until last year, my junior year in high school, that I figured out it would not be the best job field for me.…

I really do believe that probation officers can keep most of their offenders from committing new crimes and from violating the conditions of their probation as long as they have the necessary training and support system that is needed for success. I have several friends that are probation officers and they all say that their case loads are way too much. They feel that they cannot adequately monitor all of their clients because they have too many. They also know that some of their clients are milking the system and that the task of keeping them out of trouble and from reoffending is impossible. The majority of their clients are following their conditions and making an attempt to learn from their mistakes and become a better person.…
