Are social networking sites and/or cell phones consuming too much time and effort or do these sites enhance people’s lives and their relationships with others?
There is no doubt that the widespread of technology devices such as cell phones, iPod, computers, and laptops has influenced the life of individuals in some certain ways. Individuals from different age groups are being fascinated with the use of many of these technological devices. The establishment of social networking sites which includes Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Badoo, and Snapchat to mention a couple has decreased the rate of proper concentration in most individuals. Students tend to spend most of their time on cell phones, performing different sorts of activities which includes texting, playing games, downloading music, or surfing the internet. The time required for most students to complete their school assignments are mostly spent on either of these activities mention above. Most students also pay less attention in class due to the usage of their cell phones. For this reason, they sometimes get lost/confused with most of the information that was presented in class due to their inability to concentrate. Cell phones/social networking time consuming on students leads to poor academic progress. The inability to concentrate better is not limited to students alone, it also has a great impacts on most workers at their workplace. Most workers intends to spend more of their valuable time posting pictures on Facebook/Instagram rather than doing the task that has been assigned to them. Some of the works that have to be completed in nothing less than an hour might take the most workers three to four hours to finish based on the fact that they have been on their cell phones or some of these social networking sites checking updates, downloading a new app, or just taking the time to surfing the internet.
