When creating a social movement, it is important to take into account what the movement will be advocating for. After taking into consideration many different social issues within our society, I decided to create a social movement involving the issue of gun ownership. However, this social movement will focus on a wide variety of issues related to gun control. In my opinion, guns seem to be linked to many different issues within our society. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, during the year 2013 “33,599” people were killed by guns in the United States. (CDC) This statistic is alarming and in order to bring that number down drastically, the underlying cause of these deaths should be examined. The rate of gun related

The name I decided on was, the Citizens Against All Gun Deaths movement. A group such as the CAAGD, will be a coalition of different citizens who want to end the underlying causes contributed to the national average of “32,964” gun deaths per year. I believe the agenda of the CAAGD movement, is appealing enough to attract many different groups within our society. I believe the fact that this movement covers core concerns of the American people, will make the message of the movement easier to stand behind. I also believe it is important to note that the CAAGD, would not be against responsible citizens owning guns. This social movement could bring awareness and change to our society, in multiple different areas. We have seen that government has been very slow to act on these issues within our society. As the death rate from firearms continues to rise, more people will be willing to promote change that will preserve our society. Even though this movement would save lives and promote a more peaceful society, right-wing extremist will still likely oppose the CAAGD movement. I think it would be important to add to the core values of the movement, that not all gun owners should be prevented from having them. I think a message that resonates common sense gun laws, would gain more traction among the general public. This would be due to the fact that less people would feel alienated by the agenda of
