Social media Web sites are among the most common activity of today 's youth. Social networks are decreasing productivity in the youth because of the use of Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Snapchat, Vine, Twitter, Youtube, and sadly the list continues. However, why does one go on all these social networks? In recent years, social media has become important for social networking and content sharing. How much time does a teenager spend on the internet on the average? An hour a day, maybe two, three, or more? Despite wishing they only spent an hour on the web, now an average teen spends minutes that are spread over the course of the day. Though, is the thrill of being on social networks to bond with friends, reconnect with family members that live …show more content…
Before bullies would be someone you knew from school; however, now many are being or have been cyber bullied by someone they haven 't even met online. Anyone with a computer or phone and the Internet access can be a member of many social networks. Many sites only require your email address and no personal information, though some also have minimum age requirements to join other than that you do not have to provide or verify that your online information is true. Once a member online one can easily begin adding friends, chatting, post personal information, image, depending on whatever site you join. Being a victim of cyberbullying is common in the this generation, for example bullies pretend to be someone else online to trick others, the continue to spread lies and rumors about victims, convince people into revealing personal information, sending, forwarding, or posting mean text message and post pictures of victims without their consent. Many trends are caused by these cyberbullies, people making fun of one another for no reason, non stop notifications from information or pictures one thought was harmless, causing a deep painful experience though many teenagers. Despite causing all the internal pain, the youth believe this situation is amusing and do not realize that cyberbully is a big deal and affecting many teens. Most of these causes lead to students deleting every profite they have online, move schools, many therapy sessions and sadly cause teens to commit somethings as dramatic as suicide.
