In the case of Social media, it might become more vertically integrated. Having companies invest in their own automation processes might drive the industry to be more vertical.
For small social media companies, this might reduce their cost by lowering production costs.

In the future social media, it will have every tool without needing another source. Communications, commerce, audience and advertising will be in a single platform. However, everyone needs a phone or a computer to participate in social media. The advance in technologies and the constant outdate of cellphones and computers, could create mountains of electronic waste. According to a UN report, India is the world’s fifth largest producer of e-waste, 95% of the e-waste it produces is either burned or dumped in landfills. This waste releases carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change and health problems.

Social media companies should pay attention to the environment and the indirect damage that the advance in technology creates. They should participate in recyclable actions and focus more in teaching users to be aware of consequences of e-waste in our planet. In addition, it is also true that thanks to social media the environmental problems are present in the platforms when people post about it. However, in the future if the environmental problems get worse, we might see an increase of environmental information about climate change in social media created by the same

According to TriplePunit, in 2016, H&M utilized a strong social media push to raise awareness for the brand’s sustainability programs and reduce the environmental footprint of the fast fashion industry. By using a hashtag #WorldRecycleWeek, H&M encouraged customers to recycle unwanted clothes at their store. This is an example of how social media could be used to be part of collaborating with the world.

If the social media entertainment industry keeps using its model towards collaborating to help environmental issues, it will help future generations to be more aware about common social problems that our world is facing. It will definitely contribute to the society to educate people better about the problem to encourage them to be part of helping and not destroying our planet.

Shifting away from capitalist
The social media entertainment is functioning at zero marginal cost, it might be one of the industries that could become part of collaborative commons as it was mentioned above. The information might not be as centralized as it is now. The eclipse of capitalism might come sooner than we can think. Social media might be different as how we know it now.
