Social media has taken on a big role in today’s society, and many people would argue that Social media’s are ruining common day communication skills. People can simply text, direct message, or facetime just to get in touch with someone and never contact each other face to face. Although this may be true, Social media has a lot of positive effects on society such as keeping in touch with people that aren't near you, and parents keeping up with their kids’ lives away from the house. Making social media beneficial for not only one age group, but beneficial for all ages. Many americans today consider social media to be a cripple in society, but really it helps in many situations. Not all family members live close to family, and many kids leave life long friends behind when departing for college. Leaving social media as one of the more reliable sources of communication. People also say that social media is the reason so many kids have problems with face to face communication skills, which is totally out of proportion. Andrew Perrin states, “Those who have attended at least some college… who attended some college and 12% of college graduates.” Which statistically shows that more college graduates have used or use social media meaning smarter people tend to use social media. Social media also takes a lot of reading so therefore it could be said to help kids reading skills. Although there are many arguments against social media, social media is very beneficial to society. All aged people use social medias making it connectable to every age group, it helps parents keep up with their kids, and it also helps you keep connections with people who may not live near you.
