Social media has a big influence on society today. However the impact it has on an individual’s life is versatile. The targeted age group that social networks or social media apps appeal to are the teenagers and the kids. Some adults use them as well. However there is a difference in between the two. The difference comes from how the two age groups interact online. Most of the time parents use them to keep up with what their children are doing and the children use them for many different reasons. Sexting or Sexual texting is the action of sending pictures of themselves that are explicit to other individuals. The consequences of sexting can be life long, and it is estimated that 20-30 percent of teens have sent and/ or received a text that contains an explicit image of another person. (The Dangers of Teen Sexting. (n.d.) April 25th). The modern technology of today has made sending and receiving sexual images much more easier but far more advanced. With the wrong click of a button any explicit video or picture can be distributed throughout the internet. Teenage boys are more common to send to send sexual suggestive messages and teenage girls are more than likely to actually send the picture. Through the act of sexting, another danger lies within. This other danger is known as Sexual Predators. These are the type of people you have to worry about. Sexual Predators is a person who targets boy or girls through the use of the internet trying to have sexual relations of some sort with that individual. Predators use the anonymity of internet to their advantage. Making new accounts and downloading new apps to persuade and influence little kids or teens. Certain predators are known to be master manipulators with skills that thwart and confuse any young child. The ideal target for an online predator are children who are emotionally vulnerable. The different benefits include making new friends and interacting with others, building relationships, and the overall experience to network. When you make new friends over the internet you find people that relate to you or who has similarities with you. Just like making friends in real life and connecting with others. Although when you 're connecting with others on the internet you also talk to people from the different counties around, different parts of the city, different states and somewhat internationally. Building relationships also comes in handy when you are making these new connections and new friendships. A healthy friendship normally starts off as strong foundation for a long lasting relationship. This is due to the fact that when you began talking to the same person you had something in common with and adding on to that,it blossoms and makes something better in the end. Such as a romantic relationship. Another positive impact social media has that not many people notice but it keeps us in touch with the world.
