Social media is currently a booming topic all over the U.S. There are different types of social media, like Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. Also, there is academic social media, such as Edmodo. Although people say that it is taking over, social media is good for society because you can express yourself, stay connected with friends, and find jobs.

Social media is a great way to express yourself. You can tell the world how you feel about any topic that you wish. Brendesha M. Tynes says in “Internet Safety Gone Wild?” that, “Online social networking can facilitate identity exploration, provide social cognitive skills such as perspective taking, and fulfill the need for social support, intimacy, and autonomy.” Tynes, who is a PhD, point is that we can take sides and know what we stand for, and we can find ourselves. In short, social media helps us define who we are in the world.

Personally, I get to keep in touch with all my cousins through Instagram. It is cool to be able to see them grow up and to watch how big they are getting. According to Tom Hodgkinson, writer for the Guardian, says in “With Friends Like These…” that “This enormously successful American business describes itself as a ‘social utility that connects you with people around you.’” In other words, Hodgkinson is say that social is working so well that you can stay in contact with loved-ones.
