Should a college counselors or corporate recruiters be allowed to search you using google or look at your activities outside of school and the workplace? Should you be more responsible and watch what you post, who you are with, and what you say on social media? Companies that recruit through college campuses are now using social media to conduct background checks on their applicants. Alan Finder states that “...media sites where college students often post risque’ or teasing photographs and provocative comments about drinking...” will lead the recruiters to see the students as “...immature and unprofessional at best.”(Alan Finder) Although it is risky, the employer may look at the applicant's social media beforehand but are not allowed to let what they see affect …show more content…
So does it really matter if they do or don’t? Do you have something to hide? These people that are hiring you, are allowing you to come into their business and give you money to do so. Shouldn’t they have the right to look at what you are posting? First impressions are everything, and just because you were irresponsible in the past means you are most likely irresponsible now. That is actually untrue. People are constantly changing for the better and the worse. 15 years from now you won’t have the same viewpoints or even think the same. You are maturing every day, so basing your opinion on a person based on something rude or potentially offensive is unethical and irresponsible. Would you feel good if someone went back to that one time in your life when you had hit rock bottom, or just didn’t care, and decide if you are capable of completing a task? I know that I would not. I can speak from personal experience and say that if my band director had not disregarded my past behavior and looked at the person I had become, the high ranking position of drum major would have gone to some
