In our day and age we are able to “interaction between groups or individuals in which they produce, share, and sometimes exchange ideas over the internet and in virtual communities.” What this quote is implying is that the impact that social media has on us is huge. Today you see children growing up with so much technology sounding them. With that comes because it is our way of communicating. Thereare so many social media websites like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, which has made the social media a vital aspect of our lives. The students realized it’s easy to portray a different version of them on the internet yet, still felt pressured to look as though they’re ‘living it up’ in college.” This leads to plummeting self-esteem and self-appreciation. The focus on being liked on social media is too significantly emphasized that many students lose their self-esteem after using social networking sites after a while. Personally I can say that I was affected by this as well. Whenever you look online or on Instagram you see all these people doing really cool things and I am just stuck at home doing homework. It really feels like you are not living life to the fullest but I have learned to ignore it. Doing homework is not “missing out” on life. The fact that anyone can just Google the answers to homework problems is disturbing because it prevents learning to occur. The time spent on social media and its networking sites are ways for students to get sidetracked. Procrastinators tend to use social media the most and end up feeling the impact with their grades. With that said, the internet and social media could benefit people. People could have a sense of belonging when in online social networking sites; then again this connection isn’t face to face so it isn’t the same. Ultimately social media could be beneficial or detrimental; the results solely rely on who is using it. There are some solutions to make it less distracting. One thing that you could do, which seems to be the hardest, is to just turn off your phone while you are trying to focus on homework. I don’t think that this would work for me, but it is one solution. Another thing that you could do is to sign out of all social media sites. That way you still have your phone on if someone calls you, or if it’s an emergency. This tends to be the best solution for me because that way I am not constantly getting notifications, and I still stay focused longer. Lastly, if you like to listen to music, try to play classical music or music without lyrics, so you won’t just break in to a mini dance session. In the end, it is really hard to stay away from
