Nowadays, many kids and teens are actively using social media such as Twitter, Tumbler, Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and so on. Since the internet is rapidly propagating, social media has as well progressed rapidly.Kelly Jean Wallace strongly believes that social media actually good for kids. She is a journalist reporting for CNN. Previously, she has worked for iVillage and CBS Evening News. In her views, social media is beneficial to kids and do more good than harm. She advocates kids to be more engaged with social media.

Those who propose the use of social media including Kelly Wallace believe that it is beneficial for children. On the other hand, people opposing the usage of social media among children and teens think that they will develop bad habits. In my opinion, I believe social media is an important source for children and teens to learn, but its usage should be limited because overusing these social networks can lead to addiction, generate health hazard including physical or mental disorders, and wasting precious time that kids need to utilize while learning or doing homework (Harmon et al, …show more content…
Social media encourages anti-social behaviors including identity theft, kidnapping, prostitution, spread hate, discrimination and many social disorders. It, therefore, prepares kids and teens to become social bullies and guru of cybercrime. Secondly, it retards the ability to think, creativity, communication skills, poor grades, and making kids unconformablein expressing themselves in front of an audience.They, therefore, hide behind the shadow of these social networks where they find it easy to communicate. Furthermore, it consumes a lot of time which children can use to learn in school. As result, schools produce uneducated and unintelligent individuals in the society incapable of contributing to social and economic growth. Social networks make kids and teenagers very inactive in sporting activities and general exercise and therefore results in lifestyle diseases. Many people would argue that social networking offer individuals space and platforms for socialization. But I wonder whether people in the 60s needed social networking, and their social interactions were real and productive. Social networks open the doors where the teens and children exercise discrimination and racial prejudice.
