In the day and age of social media, it is very important to consider how these websites and applications can affect an individual’s professional career. A large number of people are being fired or reprimanded for opinions, statements, and affiliations found on their social media profiles. Employers have started using social media profiles as a type of prescreening for employment, checking how one presents themselves to the world before considering them for a role as a representative of their company. On the other hand, these same platforms can be a beneficial tool to showcase and advertise a product or service, even if that service is the person themselves. Many people use websites like Facebook to promote their skills or product successfully as it reaches a large amount of people in not only the local area, but nationally and globally. Some schools are seeing the compulsive use of cellphones in the classroom as such a hindrance in learning and focus that they have made mandatory bans on the devices being seen, while others have lessened the hold on controlling the use of electronics in class. Teachers are applying for grants to purchase entire inventories of iPads to engage students in learning at an extremely high rate. Most students are using websites and applications like Facebook and Twitter during school hours. This can distract from school work and learning and cause students to fall behind in the planned curriculum.
