Social media is not detrimental, in fact, it's beneficial. Most people in this world use social media because overall it is better than not using social media. Social media is useful in the classroom, it keeps you connected, and it can help get you a job.
Social media is favorable in the classroom. According to Dr. Richard J. Light, "virtual study groups [is one] excellent way to increase student learning" (Article 3). Knowing how to use social media is a needed skill in the work place now a days. Their are places who are looking for people to be their social media director. Most companies have social media websites that they are on and they need someone to control it. "Managing an online presence and being able to interact effectively online is becoming an increasingly important skill in the workplace" (Article 4), is needed in the work field. Even though I do understand how people believe that social media is distracting and "[G]adgets [are] making us dumber" (Article 1), however, if you can get a job to be a social media director for a company I do not think it could be making you "dumb".
