The younger generation users of social media outlets have become victim to thinking they have done something through their phone. While showing support is great, sometimes a situation calls for actual action, in person. Yet, it never makes it this far. I remember talking with a group of high school students that I teach and I asked them “do you ever support something on social media in person? Or do you just hashtag it and then go about your day?” Most responded that they show support and are intertwined with the happenings in the world, but if it came down to donating money, or personally protesting, they were not involved. It was fascinating to see something from their perspective, to them support did not need substance, just a few words and then you are done.
