CompuServe was one of those avenues. CompuServer began in the 1970’s as a mainframe computer that businesses used as a tool to communicate but became popular in the public domain in the late 80’s. CompuServe was similar to BBS in that it allowed you to share and access files but CompuServe also allowed members to truly interact with each other. Members were able to send messages, similar to emails, to friends as well as participate in discussions via forums. The popularity of these forums opened doors to the way that we communicate online today.
I’m sure that many people are familiar with AOL. America Online to most people was the beginning of what we consider to be the start of social media. Consumers need to be able to access your social media platforms and your website via their mobile phones in order for you to gain the exposure you need to compete with other marketers. Websites such as Amazon and Target have mobile apps that allow you to access promotions, coupons, track packages, etc. right at your fingertips.
