Why Do Arab People Use Social Media?

Before the invention of social media, people relied on news channels, newspapers, and radio broadcasts to get their daily news. Each country had its own form of spreading news according to their own bias. However, one could not utilize the old media in such a way to become a participant in their surroundings because their sole purpose was to publicize global events. After the spread of social media, the way people perceive news has become increasingly advanced.

A regular citizen nowadays can use social media websites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, etc. to spread news, participate in global issues, and express public opinion. As a result, social media became the “new black” and old forms of media are becoming irrelevant since news are instantly announced on social media websites from people who were firsthand witnesses or subjects. In addition, old forms of media are extracting broadcasts from Facebook and Twitter to provide accurate news.
