Albert Einstein once stated, “Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal.” This quote from 1800s-1900s has become even more relevant in the 21st century, because of the advancing popularity in social media platforms. Adolescents are mainly exposed to modern media sites because they’re growing up in a time where technology is advancing rapidly. Advocates of social media platforms claim that the internet is what connects the world together; it is an efficient and helpful way of communication, a modernized way for students and teachers to search for information and conveniently spreads informative news faster. Many adolescents are intrigued by social media content because it contains the latest trends and news. However But, what they don’t realize is how much time they are wasting browsing the web. According to a new study from Pew Research Center, “92% of teens report going online daily including 24% who say they go online ‘almost constantly,’... more than half (56%) of teens defined in this report as those ages 13 to 17 go online several times a day, and 12% report once-a-day use.” In other words, this study demonstrates how the use social media is gradually becoming more time consuming for the teens. of an addiction in society. The number of teens signing onto social media perpetually will only increase as technology progresses. Constantly going online will only take time away from human interaction, which causes harm to youthful teens that should be enjoying their youth and spending quality time with others, rather than staring at a screen. As more teens spend more time on social media it can be harmful by threaten their well being. Social media affects students word choice. However, some say that the type of communication over the internet is just as valuable and more people can join in. It helps students learn more about technology and about current events.
In conclusion, social networking causes much more harm for teens, because the internet is such a large place where teens are exposed while controlling their lifestyle. Minors have to be more cautious when utilizing their social media
